Ritek announces their first pre-recorded BD

Ritek, a leading optical-disk manufacturer in Taiwan, has recently announced the production of their first pre-recorded BD for the movie Rambo IV. This disc is the first of its kind in Taiwan. This BD disk is also the first to have a storage capacity of 50GB.

The pre-recorded Blu-ray Disc market is predicted to grow from 88 million discs in 2007 to 250 million discs in 2008. Blank BDs are also expected to grow to about 40 million discs. This growth is due to the announcements made by major film-industry companies that they will support BD discs rather than HD-DVDs.

Ritek Corp. was the world’s No.4 BD disc maker for the year 2007. It has successfully jumped to the No.3 rank this year. The company plans to expand its production lines to meet the growing demands of the market. It will install three new BD production lines in the near future.

The Rambo IV BD discs are expected to ship next August. U-Tech, Ritek’s subsidiary media corp., plans to release 3 pre-recorded movie BDs in addition to 40 to 50 DVDs within this year. As time passes, BD discs are gaining more popularity and more companies are expected to manufacture them in larger amounts.
