Ritek develops 2.4x and 4x dye to produce DVD+R dual layer discs

Digitimes
reports that Ritek is the second company that has developed a
dye for dual layer recording. Currently MKM (Verbatim) was the only company that
had a dual layer dye available. The company was together with Philips
highly involved in the development of DVD+R dual layer technology.

Ritek's
DVD+R DL discs can be burned at 2.4x speed with high success rates and 4x
speeds with limited success, Ai pointed out. The company is making efforts
to develop more advanced 8x DVD+R DL discs as well, Ai indicated.
Currently, Ritek ships more than 100,000 DVD+R DL discs a
month.

The more companies develop dual layer disc production
lines the cheaper it probably gets. Ritek and other Taiwanese companies usually
make consumer prices going down by their large output of discs. Discuss dual
layer media in our Media
