GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us
about this article he saw over at DigiTimes. It looks like as promised, we will
begin to see some dual layer media this month.
will begin volume production of DVD+R DL (single-sided double-layer) discs later this month, said CEO Gordon Yeh at the company's 2004 shareholders meeting on June 11.Ritek will focus on DVD+R DL and 16x DVD+R/-R discs in the second half of this year in anticipation that the high technological barriers for such discs will prevent second-tier or smaller local makers from competing in the market, Yeh indicated. With the current retail price US-$ 7 to $ 10 per disc, DVD+R DL discs can deliver gross margin of more than 50%, Yeh pointed out. |
Hmmm, at seven to ten dollars a disc, I don't know
if I would have mentioned the percentage of margin. Let's hope we don't see
these DL discs on sale with a rebate via the mail either. Generally, anything
that has a rebate is not on my shopping list.
