Roxio and Blockbuster join forces for holiday dynamic duo

Well this
just gets more and more interesting. We've all been watching the online rental
wars for DVD and wonder how low can they go? Well here's a twist just in time
for the holiday gift giving frenzy. How about a rental card that serves the dual
purpose of renting DVD's or music? Hoping the combination will result in a
dynamic duo for sales, the cards offer a tempting discount and a nice way to
attract more customers. But, since the previous moniker has already been taken,
the new cards will be called the "Digital Duo".

Card holders get unlimited access to Napster's music library and two
free track downloads from that service, as well as a month of free movie
rentals from Blockbuster's DVD-by-mail offering.

The Digital Duo card offers 32 percent savings off what consumers would
pay by purchasing the same digital entertainment packages separately.
Ordinarily, the Blockbuster Online membership is $17.49 per month and a
month of Napster access costs $9.95.

"Blockbuster Online has the instant brand recognition and massive
catalog that make it the natural partner for Napster, and we're excited to
be introducing the Digital Duo card together," said Larry Linietsky,
Napster's senior VP of business development. "We expect this to be an
extremely popular gift item during the holidays at RadioShack."

Not sure about the effect this will have since they torqued
themselves down to Radio Shack
. But, who knows maybe it will work, there's a
Radio Shack in nearly every mall nowdays. Plus, maybe Roxio could have given out
a bit more downloads in the package.
