SONICblue licenses Dual-Deck technology to LG

On Yahoo we can find a press release that learns us that LG will probably bring us Dual Deck devices in the future as it has licensed SONICblue's (makers of the Rio family) Dual Deck technology.

Dual Deck products are VCR/VCR, DVD/VCR, and DVD/DVR combination products. The Company's patented DVD/VCR technology incorporates dual functionality, playing both DVDs and VHS tapes in one integrated system.

SONICblue announced that it has licensed its patented Dual-Deck technology to LG Electronics Inc., to be incorporated into future DVD/VCR combination products. This represents the second licensing agreement for SONICblue's Dual-Deck technology in recent months, following a similar agreement with Samsung Electronics Company Ltd.

SONICblue is dedicated to licensing its Dual-Deck technology to consumer electronics manufacturers seeking to market new generations of dual products, and plans to broaden its Go-Video line to meet increasing consumer demand for combination products.

``This licensing agreement underscores our intent to broaden consumer acceptance of dual consumer electronics products while protecting our intellectual property,'' said Andy Wolfe, chief technology officer, SONICblue. ``Our Dual-Deck products provide consumers with unprecedented convenience and choice, and we anticipate granting additional licenses as more companies enter this growing category

Hmmm, what's the use of these devices ? Copy VHS movies to DVD and DVD movies to VHS ? And this in one single machine ? Seems something naughty to me !
