Samsung Electronics, the manufacturer of the one of the leading 32GB SSD's has just begun mass production of its 64GB SSD. This model features an SATA II interface and Samsung claims that it offers the highest performance rates in the mobile industry market.
This 64GB SSD features a read/write rate of 100MBps/80MBps respectively and is up to 60% faster than SATA I drives and 2 to 5 times the performance of conventional magnetic based hard disk drives. The drive consumes 75% less power than a typical 2.5" HDD and weighs less at just 73g. It is made up primarily of single-level cell NAND Flash memory and will resist up to 1500Gs of shock in a half ms. Typical 2.5" hard disks are generally rated to around 300Gs in 2ms.
The 64GB SSD is already being shipped and will be made available as an option in certain Dell and Alienware laptop models in the coming weeks.
