Samsung releases the world's first external 18x Lightscribe DVD writer

London, United Kingdom '“ 22 September
2006
, Samsung Electronics has continued to demonstrate
their leading position in the optical storage market with the launch of the
world's first 18x LightScribe external DVD Writer.

The drive can write
to DVD+/-R with 18X, DVD-RAM with 12X, DVD+/-R Double Layer with 8X, DVD+RW with
8X and DVD-RW with 6X, boasting the fastest DVD+/-R and DVD-RAM speeds in the
current market.

Samsung's advanced design enables the drive to support
all of the newest formats while maintaining full backward compatibility with
older optical media. The drive is also the first external 18x DVD Writer to
offer consumers LightScribe functionality, the best CD/DVD labeling technology
available.

In addition to supporting all available DVD formats, the slim
and robust drive features a high speed USB 2.0 interface along with Nero 7
software suite for Windows and Roxio Toast 6 Lite for Macintosh.

The
Samsung SE-S184M will be available to consumers at the start of October from
online retailers such as Dabs.com and Scan Computers.

As well as the
world's first 18x LightScribe external DVD Writer, Samsung has also announced
that its full range of DVD Writers will be upgraded to 18x capable of writing to
single-layer DVD recordable media at a little more than 23MBps, or about four
minutes for the session data.

The move by Samsung to make 18x DVD
Writers standard across their optical product range will see many other
manufacturers follow suit.
'Samsung continues to raise the bar with the 18x
upgrade across all DVD writers," comments Chas Kalsi, Samsung's Optical
Technical Manager. 'We believe this increase in speed will quickly become an
industry standard and Samsung will again lead the pack with the introduction of
the fastest and most innovative internal and external DVD+/-RW drives offered to
the market today."
