CDRLabs reports that Sanyo has posted information on their website that announces a technology called HD Burn. HD in this stands for High Density and allows consumers to store up 1.4 GB data on a normal CD-R.
Currently there are already CD-Rs on the market that can contain 900 MB of data, but Sanyo's technology adds another 500 MB. Here are the benefits of the technology as noted by Sanyo:
The high density recording technology "HD-BURN" can record twice the capacity of conventional CD-R media. This drive is ideal for storing large volume data such as video data.
HD-Burn mode has a data write speed of 36 times and a data read speed of 80 times using the CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) format.
CD-RW media will be supported by firmware modification in the future. It will be available to record the data on ordinary CD-RW media at a maximum speed of 24 times in HD-BURN mode.
With regard to the recording application software, the "B's Recorder GOLD" (BHA) and the "Nero" (AHEAD) will support "HD-BURN". Can easily use "HD-BURN" recording by the use of Video authoring feature and DVD Video recording feature using the above application software
Sanyo makes it own CD-RW drives, but also sells parts that are used in drives of other manufacturers. That, and the support of Ahead, who is the major player on the CD-R software market, might bring this format success. Read more at Sanyo Digital.com.
