Sanyo developed a new CDRW drive once again. This time, it's a 32x drive. Accompanied with Burnproof and an 4MB buffer, buffer underruns won't happen.
What even is better is that the drive will be released in 2 different versions: IDE (ATAPI) and SCSI. The drive will hit the streets around the end of November 2001.
Some specs:
Speeds: 32X Write / 10X Rewrite / 40X (CAV)Read Interface : SCSI-3 (8-bit narrow bus)and Eide/ATAPI Buffer size 4MB Reading speed : 40x CAV Writing speed : CD-R media 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, 12x, 16x CLV, 16x-24x, 24x-32x Z-CLV Re-writing speed : 2x, 4x, 8x, 10x, CLV 42.3(H)mm BURN-Proof Technology implemented |
To me, this is very good news. Since Plextor uses a lot of Sanyo hardware (chipset etc) it's very likely Plextors 32x will follow very soon. Besides that, I like the fact that there will be a new SCSI drive. Since I (and with me are quite some others) am a SCSI freak, I'm looking forward to this drive.
For those who are concerned about 32x certified media: Ritek already announced their 32X CDRS and I guess the others will follow very very soon!
