Seagate sues SSD maker STEC

Here we go again... Legal matters. Hard disk maker Seagate filed a suit against SSD maker STEC concerning patent violations. Seagate claims that the SSD manufacturer violated patents when they decided to integrate some important controllers in STEC's newest flash memory SSD drives. Many companies are manufacturing SSDs and the controllers used by STEC are important for the product. The controllers make sure weak points of flash chips, like speed and reliability, are no longer existing.

With many manufacturers using these controllers a victory by Seagate could mean a price increase for SSDs, since many will have to pay fees to the hard disk maker. STEC announced that they will 'aggressively pursue its defense'. STEC said that this lawsuit is 'completely without merit and primarily motivated by competitive concerns rather than a desire to protect its intellectual property.'

We are curious how this will develop since this will be an 'aggressive lawsuit' between two powerful companies.
