Sharman introduces KaZaA Media Desktop V1.7

Sherman Networks, the current owners of KaZaA have released KaZaA Media Desktop v1.7. This new release brings the release of Altnet, the new network usuable by KaZaA (consider KaZaA as a client that can connect to two networks: FastTrack Network and Altnet) that should bring paid content and demos.

Sharman has also tried to be less strict with the limits, users can now have more search results (but will probably slow down the network a little when not everyone is upgraded) and more:

v KaZaA desktop 1.7 features:

New Altnet range of high quality, high integrity files offered in response to KMD searches.

Search More function allows KaZaA users to double their number of search results by querying more KaZaA users.

p2p technology enhancements mean that, as more users upgrade, the speed of KaZaA searches continually increases.

Media player enhancements deliver support for additional file formats, such as WMV (Windows Media Video) and WMA (Windows Media Audio).

New visualization function in theatre view provides psychedelic animation that moves to the music.

Enhanced security feature gives better protection against viruses by alerting the user before opening files.

Altnet:

Over the course of the next few weeks KaZaA users will begin to see Altne- driven owner-propagated content appear in their KaZaA search matches. Users will be able to easily identify these high integrity Altnet files in their KaZaA searches. Altnet files will present, for instance, demo versions, marketing-driven content promotions and/or paid-for content. The KaZaA user will have a choice to select these high quality files at their discretion.
