Sharp introduces two TVs with built-in Blu-ray

Sharp plans to bring two LCD HDTVs with built-in Blu-ray players to the North American market next month.

The products were already released in Japan in October, with the 32" TV supporting a 720p resolution, with the 42" TV supporting 1080p resolution. Both TVs to be released in the U.S. will have 1080p resolution.

Both models have been designed so consumers will be able to mount the TVs to the wall, which make them ideal for bedrooms and areas with small space.

Sharp hasn't announced the cost of the TVs yet, but the 42" TV is expected to cost less than $2,000.

It's likely Sharp will demo the new TVs during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next month.

The price of standalone Blu-ray players continues to slide, but Blu-ray adoption still has been lackluster. Companies are working to try and figure out how to get consumers to adopt the technology any way possible.

Last month, Silicon Mountain introduced two new LCD HDTVs that go a step further than Blu-ray alone, as they have a PC also built into them. The 32" HDTV with a 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 250GB HDD, 2GB memory and DVD burner will be available for $1,599. The 42" HDTV will cost $2,399.
