Singulus to take over ODME mastering

The German manufacturer of CD- and DVD-production mastering technology Singulus, has signed a letter of intent to acquire ODME, the mastering company belonging to the netherlands OTB group.

ODME is the world leader in mastering and already has technology for the future of optical discs: Blu-ray and AOD. The third generation of optical data storage will offer new markets in the next few years, together with the invention of high-resolution digital television. With the merger of the own mastering activities SINGULUS OMP and the merger to SINGULUS MASTERING in Eindhoven arises a powerful corporation with a technological leading and complete portfolio for all current and future optical disc formats.

The acquisition of the MoldPro injection moulding technology will set apart Singulus from others. This technology offers unique possibilities for manufacturing of thin substrates which are used for Blu-ray. Additionally MoldPro is suited for injection moulding of optical substrates and is planned to be used in the area of optical coating. MoldPro ought to be ready for use until the end of 2004 at Singulus Emould.

This transaction still has to be approved by trust authorities. Hopefully this will lead to a fast invention of Blu-ray and AOD drives in order to be able to produce discs that match the rising capacities that will be needed in the near future.
