Sirius XM finally launches iPhone app

Sirius XM has finally launched its app for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch owners, with the typical Sirius services expected through the app.

Users can listen to Sirius sports, talk, music, and comedy channels directly through the iPhone app.  Service includes NPR, The Foxxhole, Oprah Radio, MLB Home Plate, NFL Radio, NHL Home Ice, and Mad Dog Radio.

"Getting Sirius XM's superior programming on your iPhone or iPod touch is now convenient and easy," Sirius XM CEO Mel Karmazin said in a statement.  "The Sirius XM app allows new and existing subscribers to access great music, talk and sports almost anywhere they go. For millions of users, the best radio on radio is now the best audio content on their iPhone or iPod touch."

In addition, users also have access to the Sirius XM music channels, with Eminem's Shade 45, E Street Radio, Siriusly Sinatra, and other stations.

However, I'm rather disappointed that MLB Play-by-Play, NFL Play-by-Play, Howard Stern, Nascar Radio, and other similar services will not be included.  Sirius didn't say why these channels haven't been included, but the number of users who download and use the app may decrease because of these important omissions.

Songs heard through the service can be purchased through Apple iTunes, with users also having the ability to save favorites, search what's playing while listening to a station, and have access to more than 130 channels.

If you're a Sirius subscriber, are you interested in testing out the app?
