DrJ used our newssubmit to tell us something about softwarepiracy increasement:
A little decrease in the Netherlands, but an increase in the entire world. According to the BSA the figures decreased from 1994 of every year, however that wasn't the case in the year 2000. |
The worldwide losses for software comapnies was 11.75 billion dollar. In Europe that amount was about 3.5 billion dollars.
Vietnam is still number 1 in software piracy. They still are high on the list with 97% of the software used throughout the country being illegal. Second is China with 94%.
In Europe Greece is the biggest illegal software country. They take the lead with 66 procent.
Hmmmm 66% is pretty a lot... but as long as companies etc are using legal software I think nothing's wrong. I mean about everybody owes a copy of MS Office 2000, but who would actually buy it if that was the only option to have it...?
We'd all be using Sun's free Staroffice I guess... (just an example by the way). They wouldn't earn any money from home users anyway so why bother?
