Solid state discs also from Intel

Solid state discs are a real interesting alternative to current hard disc technology because of the absence of moving parts and the lower power consumption (and, consequently, no noise and less heat developed).

Being still at the beginning, this technology is inferior to currently available hard discs, both in capacity and speed, but according to a news published at Information Week, also Intel is entering in the solid state discs market.

The Intel solid state disc is using NAND flash memory, it is available in 1-Gbyte to 8-Gbyte densities and it could be used to store boot code, operating systems, and commonly accessed libraries, making faster the computer startup.

Even if solid-state drives, in general, offer faster boot times and data access, and use less power than hard-disk drives and removable USB, or universal serial bus, storage devices, they are far more expensive.
