Sonique 2 in development

Ka used our newssubmit to tell us that the guys of Sonique are developing a new version of their MP3 player software.

Sonique is one of the most populair MP3 players, but in my opinion still not as good as Winamp. Sonique 2 development will mostly on a new design. They will introduce Mantis that should give Sonique 2 a kickass interface.

Mantis" is an incredible GUI engine written by Andrew McCann (with help from Nicholas Vinen). Mantis is greek and means "Prophet." We chose the name Mantis because it sounded cool and also because, like the Praying Mantis, our engine kicks much boo-tay.

We could build a pretty reasonable media player with a normal windows interface, but that would be way too easy (we'd rather play shuffleboard or weave baskets). Instead, we want to have the most amazing, brilliant, fun, intuitive, elegant, orgasm-inducing user interface ever created and that requires some serious horsepower. Mantis was created to provide that power. If the sonique 1.x GUI engine is the 3HP outboard on your grandpa's old metal boat, then Mantis is like the main engines on the space shuttle. Sure they both get you there, but the shuttle goes a little farther and faster.

Mantis provides a complete environment for creating any sort of UI imaginable. Mantis has nothing whatever to do with Media players per say, it could be used to create a swooby interface for any sort of application.
