Sony DADC produces its 10 millionth 50GB Blu-ray disc

Sony DADC has announced that it has produced 10 million dual-layer 50 Gigabyte Blu-ray discs (BD50s) since its launch a year and a half ago.  It produces BD50's at three plants located in Terre Haute in Indiana, Salzburg in Austria and Shizuoka in Japan.  The 10 millionth disc produced is the title "Spider-Man 3" and was produced at the Terre Haute facility.

Since the launch of the Blu-ray disc format, Sony DADC has also produced over 50 million Blu-ray discs between its three plants.  These plants have a combined manufacturing capacity of 21 million Blu-ray discs per month.

At the Terre Haute plant, yield rates of the 25GB single layer disc (BD25) and machine output performance have consistently climbed and have exceeded their expectations.  At present, single layer Blu-ray yields are consistently around 85% and dual layer Blu-ray yields are consistently between 75% and 79%.
