Burnup, a Japanese CD-R website reports that Sony now ships an external DVD-RW drive. The drive connects to your PC using IEEE-1394/Firewire standard. The drive reads your CD-ROM's at 24 speed, your CD-R(W)'s at 16 speed and it's capable of reading DVD-ROM's at 4 speed. It also reads DVD-R / RW discs, but only at 2 speed.
The drive is a CD/DVD-RW so it is also able to write data. So CD-R's will be written at 8 speed, CD-RW's at 4 speed, DVD-R at 2 speed and the same goes for DVD-RW.
The drives comes with the following software:
- DVDit DVD
- PrimocDVD
