Sony PS3 held up by Blu-ray delay and chip component issue

D4rk0n3 used our news submit to tell us the latest in the status of the PlayStation 3. Obviously,
Sony needs to get this gaming platform on the shelves, as every day that passes
by, another potential customer pulls the trigger on the Xbox 360 instead.
Problem is, the PlayStation is to be fitted with a Blu-ray drive and due to this
fact and the resulting digital rights management squabbles for the content-the
platform is repeatedly delayed. Now, we are given some new insight that there is
also some problems with components. We had hoped that the PS3 would be hitting
the streets soon, but according to this report from the
Inquirer,
even Sir Howard says no way!

SONY CEO, Howard Stringer, has confirmed that the PS3 which was supposed to be in the shops soon, will not now be around until theendoftheyear.

In an interview with well-known technology
rag Variety, Stringer said the delay is due to a hold-up with chips
crucial to the success of the console"s Blu-ray functions. He said Sony
will roll out the PS3 by the end of the year, in time for the Yule-tide
binge.

They go on to say that Sony has probably intended the
gaming platform to be a means of cementing Blu-ray in to the lead over HD-DVD,
but it's going to be tough to do so at the rate they are going. You may also
visit this link to Variety if you would like to read the
entire interview there. This Howard Stringer is certainly working hard to
try and get this company moving. What a monumental task he is facing and the
logistics of performing his role for Sony are just unbelievable as we can learn
from the Variety article.
