And another report of a professional pirate that bites the dust. This time an Australian male had been sued by SCE Australia for importing a large number of counterfeit PlayStation CD-ROMs under five separate aliases and selling them at markets in Sydney.
The Federal Court in Sydney has ordered the ringleader of a major piracy operation to pay over $220,000 in damages for his part in the sale of counterfeit PlayStation CD-ROMs. |
A media release from Sony Computer Entertainment claimed this figure was the largest awarded to it during its 3-½-year anti-piracy campaign. Fines of $15,000 were imposed several months ago after the same individual was found guilty of contempt of court.
Mohamed Samir Dannoun was earlier found guilty of importing and selling counterfeit PlayStation games, infringing the trademark rights of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCE Australia) and its parent company Kabushiki Kaisha Sony Computer Entertainment.
