Sony decides to cease XCP rootkit use for the future

Just in over at BetaNews, it seems Sony is really feeling the heat and has even captured the attention of the just appointed, Assistant Homeland Security Chief, Stewart Baker. If you check out this blog over at the Washington post, the government official indirectly chastises Sony and reminds them that although it may be their intellectual property, it is not their computer. He suggested that some anti-piracy efforts introduced by the industry could have profound and unexpected effects on the security of the nation's critical infrastructures. My, I wonder who in the heck he is referring to. Anyway, here is the latest from the Sony damage control department.

As a precautionary measure, Sony BMG is temporarily suspending the manufacture of Cd's containing XCP technology," the company said in a statement. "We also intend to re-examine all aspects of our content protection initiative to be sure that it continues to meet our goals of security and ease of consumer use.

Well, there is phase one, but they still don't get it, the Cd's are still out in the wild and they need to be collected-all of them. Now, lets hope the Internet community and even Homeland Security will keep dogging Sony until they pull these products from the shelves. After all, now it's a matter of National Security
