Sony launches HDR-CX7 HDTV camcorder

A new compact Hi Definition (HD) camcorder, the HDR-CX7, will be launched by Sony in July. Images will be stored on flash memories, heavily reducing the power consumption associated with moving parts like tape or DVD burners. This allowed both a longer battery duration and also to reduce dimensions to only 69 mm width, 67 mm height and 131 mm depth.

Using 8 GB memory sticks, the camera can record HDTV video in HQ mode at 9 Mb/s for approximately 1 hour and 55 minutes. Memory Stick PRO Duo and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo can be used for recording video, while Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo can be used for recording still images.

This camcorder is able to record video up to a resolution of 1080i and it will be available at a retail suggested price of 130,000 yen (about €795 or 1,070).
