Sony's saga continues: BWU-100A drive to play Blu-ray movies

Our readers surely remember the news posted on 11 August 2006, where Sony officially announced that the BWU100A Blu-ray disc writer will lack one very significant feature: The ability to play commercial Blu-ray disc movies.

Surely end-consumers were very disappointed by this decision, but now it seems that Sony changed idea. According to a news posted by Daily Tech, it seems that the new Sony burner will be able to play also commercial Blu-ray movies:

This will be made possible with a new software update for the included copy of Cyberlink PowerDVD. The new software update will arrive next month. Sony will be providing the update as a free download to BWU-100A owners.

I wonder why this "software update" gives me a strange sensation... Could it be because I still fear rootkit softwares?
