Sour grapes for Matsushita?

As both Samsung and Matsushita fight over dominance in the DRAM and flat-panel markets, the lawsuit begun in 2002 has ended in a 'draw," leaving Matsushita seriously peeved over the outcome, as it hoped to at least collect $300 million.  While a court in NJ ruled no patent infringement occurred with either company, Matsushita feels differently:

violated Matsushita's chip patents, and this ruling is unacceptable," said a spokesman from Matsushita, the world's largest consumer electronics maker. "We are studying necessary measures to overturn this verdict, including a possible appeal.

It seems these patent suits are fairly commonplace among fierce competitors, with the sued also countersuing on similar grounds, as in the Apple vs. Creative suit.  As the article does not elaborate on specific market share each company possesses in relation to each product it does state that Samsung leads Matsushita in plasma display panels, and (based on the related link in the same article) makes it appear Samsung enjoys the larger market share.  It is even suggested that Samsung may display more innovation that Matsushita at this point, in relation to multichip packages that will allow MP3 and other related manufacturers to shrink device sizes further.

Does this mean Matsushita is upset Samsung has the upper hand and was just trying to prevent Samsung from gaining greater market share in these product lines, or even hoping to hamstring it in some way, as to close whatever gap exists?  This is unclear, and certainly CDFreaks welcomes you to react, especially if you have been following this ongoing Samsung vs. Matsushita legal battle, and can shed some light on what this article does not inform us about.  Which company has the better product?  Which company is more innovative?  Be sure to tell us below if you know!
