Super Talent introduces two new SSD lines

Super Talent has introduced two new lines of UltraDrive solid state drives (SSDs), with the anticipated release of the UltraDrive ME and LE SSD lines.

The 2.5" UltraDrive LE SSD offers a read/write speed of 230/170 MB/sec up to 128GB, while the SSDs up to 256GB have a 200/160 MBps read/write speed.  The SSDs will be released with 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage capacities.  It's been designed to outperform 10,000 RPM HDDs while generating less heat and using less power.

The UltraDrive ME will be the fastest 2.5" flash-based storage alternative for SATA-II notebooks, with maximum read/write speeds at 200/160MBps.  Storage capacities will range from 16GB up to 256GB.  It uses the Super Talent third-generation multi-level cell (MLC) NAND-based flash chips for storage, according to the company.

Super Talent hasn't released pricing information, but the company expects to release the new products sometime next month.

Analysts and manufacturers expect SSDs to be the successor to HDDs, although an exact date when that will happen is still unknown.  SSDs have faster read times than HDDs, are more energy efficient, and more reliable -- but they are more expensive and write times are still disappointing.
