Almost half of football fans said an HDTV is a good enough incentive to visit their in-laws on Super Bowl Sunday, a survey commissioned by Samsung and the NFL found.
The representative sample included 1,011 Americans of both genders, ages 18 and over. Of this group, 43 percent said they'd be more likely to visit their in-laws if an HDTV was in place. More men than women -- 50 percent to 34 percent -- found this to be a suitable incentive.

More surprisingly, those surveyed said picture quality is more important than food when watching the big game. Personally, I beg to differ; give me a plate of chicken wings and standard definition instead of high def and peanuts any day. Then again, it's not clear how the question was framed, and no one wants to watch the game on a black-and-white set from the 1960s.
Keep in mind, of course, that Samsung manufactures HDTVs, so the company has a vested interest in making them more attractive to consumers. That said, one has to wonder if this really works out in Samsung's favor. After all, maybe you don't want your in-laws to come over, in which case you might refrain from buying a high definition television.
