A recent survey on Kakaku.com showed that still a majority of the Japanese want to buy a Blu-ray recorder. The website ran the survey from August 18th until the 25th in 2008 and received a total of 4,978 responses. Kakaku.com said that its survey targeted trend-sensitive visitors, and that the website was suprised that more than ten percent (11.6%) already owned a Blu-ray recorder.
Just over one percent of the respondents never heard about Blu-ray and 31.5% knows what it is but has no intention of buying it. A total of 16.7% really wants to buy a Blu-ray recorder while 39% "considers" to buy one, meaning that over half of all respondents is positive and considers to buy Blu-ray recorders.
Nevertheless a large group (31.5%) definitely isn't planning on spending a single yen on a BD recorder. Based on these results Kakaku.com forecasts that the penetration of BD recorders will exceed 30% in Japan in the near future.
