T-Mobile launches digital download service

GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us that T-Mobile is to
provide customers with the ability to download music to their phones via their
new jukebox service. The new T-mobile phones that support this feature are
called Ear Phone handsets and can hold just three songs at once. Each song
is limited to 90-120 seconds. This limit seems to be in place to keep the
download duration time low especially over GPRS based system and nothing to
do with handset capacity.

Song are not cheap
costing Â£1.50 in the UK or €1.50 in the Euro zone, with only 500 tracks to
choose from there isn't much choice but T-mobile promised they will expand their
track selection to 250,000 in the future. T-mobile at the moment only has
licensing agreements with two of the big record companies but hopes to sign
deals with the other big music companies in the future. The new
T-mobile ear phones launch next month in various places in Europe.

Mobile Jukebox, though T-Mobile has promised to grow that to 250,000 by
Christmas, with content from just two of the big five recording companies:
Sony and Universal. T-Mobile hopes to sign deals with Warner and BMG in
due course. It also expects to offer full-length songs in due
course.
