T-Online International in Internet movie deal with MGM

GristyMcFisty
reports us that T-Online International, Europe's largest Internet provider, has
closed a
deal
with Hollywood studio MGM
(Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer). As a result of the deal, T-Online will
show MGM's movies over the Internet:

T-Online, a unit of Germany`s dominant phone carrier Deutsche Telekom, said on Monday the deal gives it access to a 4,000-title library, including movie classics such as "Legally Blonde", "Get Shorty" and "The Silence of the Lambs". "This landmark agreement speaks to the promising future of video-on-demand worldwide," said Jim Griffiths, president of MGM Worldwide Television Distribution, in a statement.

In a separate deal, T-Online also bought the rights to show the top titles of German movie distributor Constantin Film, which has released some of the best-selling movies produced in Germany.

T-Online is due to launch its T-Online Vision on TV service, which will allow customers to download videos over the Internet and then watch it on their TV sets, by the end of the year.

T-Online did not disclose financial details of the deals, its first buys of major content for its video-on-demand service.
