TDK: 16x DVD+R medias are now available

TDK brings high-quality, high-speed DVD
recording to the high street

TDK's 16x DVD+R now available
TDK is the first
recording media manufacturer to get its 16x DVD+R on the shelves and its 16x
DVD-R is soon to follow. Recording at full speed, it is possible to record
4.7GB, approximately the equivalent of two hours of home-video footage, in under
six minutes, with no compromise on data quality.

Recording at high-speeds puts extreme pressure on recording
media discs. 16x discs spin at approximately 9600 rotations per minute and
unless kept stable there is a risk that data integrity will be compromised as
the DVD 'jitters'. To ensure that even at top speeds data, images, films and
music can be recorded at a consistently high-quality, TDK has developed a unique
Cyanine dye coating for its 16x DVD discs. This dye ensures that TDK 16x media
offers the highest precision and reliability at any speed as the laser-etched
marks (pits) are precisely mapped on the disc surface..

Jean Paul Eekhout, European marketing manager at TDK explains:
'TDK prides itself in driving standards in DVD. In 2003, our scientists realised
that conventional dyes would have difficulty in supporting high quality
recordings at both high and lower speeds. Nearly two-years in the making, TDK
has developed the Cyanine dye that maintains accuracy at different speeds so we
can continue to offer the highest quality recording media, with the maximum
backward compatibility, that will playback in virtually any DVD
player"

TDK's 16x DVD+R discs are available now, both in a regular
version and with TDK's unique ScratchProof™ coating. ScratchProof DVDs are100
times more scratch resistant than standard DVD-recordable discs, as well as
being fingerprint and dust resistant. For use in a PC DVD writer or home
recorder, the media is available in Jewel Case, Slim Jewel Case, spindle and
video box. The discs have been tested by all the major burner manufacturers and
are available at all usual outlets.
