TDK have released a new series of MOJO solid state MP3 players. These are the MOJO 1, MOJO 128F, MOJO 256F and the MOJO X. The MOJO X player is their most basic version and is designed for quick USB music transfer without proprietary drivers or software. The MOJO X runs up to 12 hours on a single AAA alkaline, features 128MB internal flash, five equaliser presets along with a user programmable equaliser and the usual repeat 1/all/A-B playback modes.
The MOJO 1, MOJO 128F/256F support WMA and MP3 at bit rates of 8-320 kbps CBR and VBR. All three also have MMC and SD card slots for extra music capacity and also have a 25 programmable (20 for 128F/256F) preset FM tuner. The MOJO 1 and MOJO 128F have 128MB internal flash and the MOJO 256F has 256MB internal flash. All three have voice and FM radio recording capabilities. The MOJO 1 features 10 hour battery life on a single alkaline AAA and four equaliser presets. The MOJO 128F/256F feature 12 hours battery life on a single AAA alkaline, backlit display, seven equaliser presets with a user programmable equaliser and comes with text to speech software. Finally, all three have flashable firmware and come with plugins to allow music transfer from existing applications as well as TDK's own UniFi track transfer software.

One nice feature I see with the MOJO 1 and 128F/256F is the ability to add on memory cards for extra storage. Most other flash MP3 players are limited to what ever memory they come with. Secure digital cards came in memory capacities up to 512MB and will soon reach 1GB. This allows one to buy to buy the MP3 player from one shop and then find another shop that sells cheap memory 😉 While hard drive based MP3 players don't have a memory problem, they are still more heavy, bulky, tend to use proprietary batteries and susceptible to hard drive damage if dropped, unlike the solid state flash versions.
TDK are known for producing good quality optical disc products. They are the only DVD recordable manufacturer that produces Amour Plated DVD discs that up to 100 times more scratch resistant than standard discs. Other manufacturers may try to 'fine tune' their media to be as readable as possible, increase recording speed or make the recording dye long lasting, but get a few scratches on them and they are as good as coffee coasters!
When the new Mojo players become available later this month, their estimated prices are expected to be: $ 179.99 for the MOJO 1, $ 139.99 for the MOJO 128F, $ 189.99 for the MOJO 256F and $ 99.99 for the MOJO X.
