TDK shows off 6x BD-R discs at Data Storage Expo in Japan

D4rk0n3 used our news submit to tell us about this interesting news found over at HD Beat. As the article states, we don't even have burners for Blu-ray that would support such speeds, however we can see TDK is displaying the media to yhe public. At least during the 8th annual Data Storage Expo in Japan, they were able to "show off" some 6x media, whatever that means, as well as an interesting prototype disc for the same format. You can visit the HD Beat site for a snapshot of the 6x disc.

They also showed off a quad-layer 100GB Blu-ray disc, although it was only a prototype, they do expect to ship 4x discs before the end of this year. We"re looking forward to burning 25-50GB at a time, we"re not looking forward to waiting an hour for it to finish. These high speed discs need to get here and fast, HD DVD-Rs need to get their speed up to compete (actually, they need to become available at all but thats just splitting hairs).
