While surfing the internet I saw a news post over at CDRLabs.com about a utility released by TEAC Japan to modify the read speed of the TEAC CD-W540E.
As you might know from reading our review of the drive, the maximum speed of this drive is 48x. With this utility you can reduce the speed to 40x:
The Maximum read speed of TEAC CD-W540E is 48X. For more silent and safe operation, you can fix the maximum read speed at 40X using this utility. In case you need 48x maximum speed again, you can change the setting as well.
Click this to see the contents of README.TXT for detailed instruction for using.
Why this utility? Is 40x reading so much more quiet than 48x reading? Maybe TEAC Japan has received some reports of discs braking inside the recorder at these extremely high speeds... It's one of the reasons why Plextor didn't implement 48x reading for their PX-W4010A writer. Who knows...
If you have this TEAC drive you can directly download this speed utility here. Please read the license agreement first for more information.
