TOPY Mini Writer offers 500MB storage in a small package

Advanced Media, Inc., a subsidiary of Ritek Corporation, announced recently that the TOPY Mini Writer is now available in the US.  We had a chance to view this product during the CES in Las Vegas and it appeared to be a nice piece of hardware. What sets this one apart from other optical writers, is the use of the 500 MB DataPlay mini disc. These things are small enough to allow for a writer with some tiny dimensions: 1.3" X 1.65" X 0.11". Pretty cool! It seems to me, from what I remember at last January's CES, that the discs themselves were about the size of a quarter. Very small indeed. The writer weighs in at 76 grams.

Priced at around $125 dollars US, the unit comes with three "free" 500 MB DataPlay optical discs. The Mini Writer is a hot pluggable USB 2.0 device and compatible with Win98/2k/XP, Mac 9.2.0 or Linux Kernel 2.4.0. operating systems. It supports Fat12/16 format. Drivers are available online at Ritek.
