Taiwan market: BenQ says DVD burners to exceed 50% of ODDs sold in 2006

This is
no surprise. DigiTimes is reporting that BenQ has is predicting that
over half of all optical disc burners sold next year in the Taiwan market,
will be DVD burners. Figures show that if this is the case, it will be a 20%
increase in percentage over this year of all optical drives sold drives sold in
Taiwan. One point of interest pointed out in the article though, is apparently
BenQ is observing sales figures of RAM capable or so-called Super Multi burners,
to determine when is the best time to launch their models in the Taiwan market.
The report went on to offer this information as well:

To
reduce inventory levels, local retail channels have lowered or plan to
lower prices of 16x DVD Dual with 8x DL (single-sided double-layer)
burners and 16x DVD Dual with 4x DL burners by 7-10% to NT$1,600-1,800
(US$48-54) and below NT$1,500 (US$45),
respectively.
