Taiwan optical-disc makers thumb nose at Wal-Mart low prices

GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us Wal-Mart can't twist arms over in Taiwan the way in can in the good old USofA. Seems they want to get a better deal on media and the major players, say fine go ahead on! But not from us.

US retail giant Wal-Mart is having a difficult time finding OEM partners among Taiwan's second-tier producers of blank optical discs, despite offering a large volume order of more than 10 million blank optical discs per month.

According to Taiwan's optical-disc makers, the OEM price is too low. The second-tier makers contacted by Wal-Mart include GigaStorage and Optodisc Technology, the makers indicated.

Yeah I don't blame them, with the price of petroleum based products unstable and raw materials for discs increasing, it's foolish to take on such a high volume customer right now. Lucky for them, they have other outlets to go to with their wares. Other industries are not so lucky anymore.
