Teacher sued for copying cd's

A teacher of the 'Koninklijk Technisch Atheneum", a Belgian highschool got sued because he illegally copied some CDs.... Although he's been found guilty, he won't be punished. The only thing he has to do is pay them about BEF 200.000. That's just about 18% of the amount the IFPI and Sabam (copyright organisations) asked for.

What he did... Some years ago he bought a CDR drive and built a website offering hundreds of CDs for sale. He always wanted to be paid in US$ (so they thought he was dealing worldwide)....

The music industries think he sold about 144 CDs but the judge thinks 40 is more like it. So that's what he got to pay for...

To me, it sounds stupid to sue somebody who only sold 40 CDs. Well I'm no dealer, but to me 40 CDs aren't that much for a dealer...... I think it's nothing.

Maybe they just want to set an example...
