Robert
Pisano, the Screen Actors Guild national executive director and CEO,
retained Bert Fields to defend himself from being removed from his position,
which happens to pay $1.3 million per-year. Union members are siting a conflict
of interest in that Pisano, while preparing to seek higher DVD residuals
and other gains as the union's chief negotiator, remains on the board of DVD rental company Netflix.
investigations have cleared Pisano of that conflict, but his critics have also focused on such matters as his perceived inability to negotiate strong contacts and SAG's failed merger attempts with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. Well, I guess the job over at Netflix pays pretty
well too, or he would give that up. But, maybe there is a commute or something
at the screen actors guild so he has to figure gas and such. Also, I have
always wondered how someone can get paid so much yet, still has enough free time
to hold down a night job. Maybe they're both part time positions I don't
know. I know this, when the three year contract is up, the new contract will be
written differently.
