Toshiba has released a new external HD DVD. Designated the PA3530U-1HD1, it is powered with an external adapter and connects through the USB2 connection. It is currently available at Newegg and others, and it burns CDs and SL and DL DVDs as well as HD DVD playback. The specs are not too impressive, but it does provide a reasonably priced ($370) alternative to watching HD movies on the 360. Keep in mind, your laptop will require some pretty hefty hardware in order to provide decent playback.
