Toshiba demonstrated SSD performance at CES

On a news published at Tech On is reported that Toshiba demonstrated at CES the amazing speed of its notebook computer incorporating a 128-Gbyte solid state drive (SSD) using a multilevel-cell NAND flash memory.

The demonstration was carried out with two identical computers side-to-side measuring the boot time of Windows Vista from a standard 120-Gbyte HDD and from a SSD. The demonstration showed that the SSD-based machine took approximately 30 seconds for the boot-up while HDD model took about 1 minute.

The maximum data transfer rate (sequential mode) of Toshiba's multilevel SSD at the time of reading reaches 100Mbps. This is about twice as fast as that of a standard HDD. In addition, the power consumption of the SSD in full operation is lower than half of that of a 2.5-inch HDD, the company said.

Now end-consumers must only wait for prices to become more... user-friendly.
