Traxdata has officially announced the availability of its first Blu-ray rewritable (BD-RE) disc. This is a single layer 25GB disc featuring a 2x write speed. This media is targeted at HD video at up to 1080p @ 40Mbps and data storage, such as for music, photos, software, video content and documents. It features hard coating technology to give it a much stronger resistance to scratches and fingerprints, thus improving its durability and lifespan.
When compared with legacy rewritable discs, this disc features about 35 times the capacity of CD-RW or about 5 times the capacity of a single layer DVD-RW or DVD+RW. For businesses, it makes it ideal as a back-up solution, particularly for laptops and small servers as an alternative to tape.
