While new file sharing networks have tried starting up aiming to be superior to existing P2P networks, the problem they face is attracting sufficient users on the new network to make using the network worth while. So far, a few existing P2P software companies such as Morpheus have tried adding multi-network capabilities, but still put many consumers off by also bundling spyware and other unwanted software with their package.

It seems like while there are many secure file sharing networks aiming to allow file sharing with minimal risk of being traced, it looks like the majority of consumers are happy sticking with what is already popular at present.
Gnutella seems to be one of the longest running file sharing networks, despite inefficient searching capabilities. While Kazaa has been running for quite a while also, its network has actually changed several times, rendering older software clients and hacked 'lite' software clients obsolete.
