Try whistling this... then download it!

Are you searching for that elusive tune which got stuck in your head at a party, or maybe on the way to work? Well, getting hold of it could soon be easier than you think; since c|net News reports on the website Midomi which allows the input of a song by humming, whistling, or even singing it directly into your computer. It's only a beta at the moment, but the software will interpret the sampling of the 'tune' and come up with a selection of songs for you to choose from.

Apparently the company which started the site (run by an academic speech recognition expert) has invested in the appropriate licencing of legitimate tracks that can be purchased and downloaded, to the tune of 2 million separate pieces of music. Thus you should be able to go from whistling to download in a matter of minutes. One can't help thinking that if this thing really works, then Google will be all over it like a rash.
