UK games hardware figures: N-Gage victory! Or not really?

Now that the holidays are over we can see how well
the different (handheld) console makers have done during this period. According
to PC
Pro
, reported to us by GristyMcFisty, in the United Kingdom the Nokia N-Gage was
the only console to record a rise in sales in the week ending 27 December. Sales
were up almost 20 percent but of course, in real terms this only means
a small increase in real sold units as the Nokia N-Gage isn't
during very well (at all). The other consoles have done better in the UK,
especially the Sony PlayStation 2 and the Microsoft Xbox:

The stats in full for UK hardware sales for the week ending 20
December, then, and the GBA, sold just a tad over 1,700 units, down almost
60 per cent, while its more sophisticated cousin the SP shifted just
nearly 40,000 units, up around 10 per cent on the previous week's total.

Nintendo sold just over 21,000 GameCubes, up
around 15 per cent, while Sony's all conquering PS2 shifted a whopping
100,000 units, up once more to the tune of almost 15 per cent. Meanwhile,
Xbox put in a storming performance with slightly over 40,000 units sold,
up around 50 per cent on the previous week's sales.

For the week ending December 27, meanwhile, GBA sales fell by
around 50 per cent; the SP was also down by over 20 per cent, with a tad
under 30,000 units shifted. Nintendo also flogged a little under 20,000
GameCubes, down around 10 per cent.

But Nokia's N-Gage beat this downwards trend achieving over 200
units sold, up by almost a fifth (not including sales from mobile phone
specialists). Meanwhile the PS2 managed sales of just over 90,000 units
for the period, while Xbox continued to sell well, maintaining sales of
over 40,000 units.
