DamnedIfIknow used our news submit to tell us that cinema staff in the US are being offered five hundred dollars (£275) to catch people who record movies with camcorders during cinema screenings. The current scheme is being run by the big film studios and movie theatres in order to stop movie piracy which the industry claims loses them billions of dollars each year. Staff who catch people recording films or even reporting the person to the police and stop the person recording are eligible. Cinema staff are even using night vision goggles, metal detectors to catch people recording films during screenings it's become that serious. The studios are even lobbying states to make it a crime record a movie in a theatre, in California you can even make a citizens arrest against a person recording a movie with their camcorder.
