U.S. Experts Doubt Third Version of Code Red

A new versoin or not the Code Red worm or keep the internet bussy.

The Code Red computer virus has mutated into a third more dangerous variant, South Korea Information and Communication Ministry said on Friday,but U.S. virus experts said it was not a new version.

About 10 damage reports have come in which were believed to have been the result of the latest Code Red III,Ko Kwang-sup, an official at the ministry, told Reuters.

He said the Code Red III worm spreads even faster than earlier versions and leaves a wider ``back door'' on infected machines, making them more vulnerable to future hacking.

But U.S. network security experts disagreed that this iteration indeed constituted a new variant.

I've checked with our global labs and they have no reports of a new Code Red-like worm out there or a mutation into a third,'' Ian Hameroff, business manager for security solutions at Network Associates told Reuters. ``We believe it's not a new strain, but a reintroduction of what was discovered and announced by (Computer Associates) and others last Sunday.
