Cnet.com reports that a major pirated sofware group has been cracked down.
The authorities arrested 27 people in California, Washington and Oregon last week. The pirates duplicated expensive software packages in Taiwan and sold them on the US market.
A Microsoft representative called the alleged pirating ring "the largest criminal conspiracy in the history of the software industry involving the distribution of counterfeit and infringing software." |
"We are immensely appreciative of the collective efforts of law enforcement in breaking this case," Rich LaManga, manager of worldwide investigations for Microsoft, said in a statement.
Many of those arrested allegedly duplicated software such as Microsoft Office 2000 and Microsoft Windows NT in Taiwan and then sold the pirated versions in the United States and elsewhere.
Adobe Systems software, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Go-Live, was also targeted by the alleged software pirates.
Those arrested last week face charges including money laundering, criminal copyright infringement and trafficking counterfeit goods.
Well another criminal organistation has been busted. I think most of you won't really care about these big players as they make money with products of other people.
These are professionalk pirates and something completely different from home copying.
