United Kingdom Will Take Hard Look At Copyright

jef195 used our news submit to tell us that the United
Kingdom's Chancellor of the Treasury has asked independent agency to look at and
review copyright and intellectual copyright laws. This in turn would
look into fair use and a review on intellectual property
rights.

The review will last for
a total of 12 months and will report to the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Gordon
Brown) in his pre budget report as well as the secretary for state and industry
and secretary of state of culture media and sport.

Legal The United Kingdom"s Chancellor of the Treasury said Friday that an independent agency would review copyright and intellectual-property law, with an eye toward "fair use" and simplifying regulations. Andrew Gowers, former
editor of the Financial Times, will lead an independent review into
intellectual property rights in the UK, the ministry said in a statement.

The review will be commissioned by the
Chancellor of the Exchequer in his "Pre-Budget Report," and will run for
12 months, reporting to the Chancellor, the Secretary of State for Trade
and Industry and the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

Lets hope fair use is fully enshrined in the UK's copright laws.
