Finally! The moment we have all been waiting for. Mobile charges will be standardized. Buy a new phone and use the old charger. Low on battery? Just ask anyone in the house for a connector, they are all the same anyway. Doesn’t this make your life easier.

Today, the GSMA (a large organization representing 750 mobile operators and 200 other companies like phone manufacturers) announced that a universal micro USB will become the standard in 2012. Big players as Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, LG and Sony Ericsson are behind this initiative and declared that the majority of their phones will have this new universal connection in 3 years. The new charger will also be designed to be 50% greener in standby mode. So, good for the environment as well.
The European Committee announced earlier this week that they would like to have a universal charger. Seems like this increased the process of announcing this new project. Next step could be a wireless charger?
